Kukatja and English
Larry Gundora is one of Wirrimanu’s most senior law men. He carries traditional knowledge of country, and holds Tjukurrpa through dance and art.
Larry layers his paintings, from the minerals below the earth to soil to vegetation and paints the story of land management of the vegetation. He mixes ochre with acrylics, to create paintings with a rustic quality.
In 2012-2013, Larry transformed his knowledge into the art of print. As one of the men who worked with Japanese Woodblock carving, his work effortlessly integrates the traditions of carving, his knowledge of the land and that of his own culture into a new art form.
His artwork is as detailed and textured as is his own character.
