Theresa started painting in 1992. Theresa tells that when she was a little girl she would sit with her grandparents (Bai Bai Napangarti and Sunfly Tjampitjin) and they would teach her many Tjukurrpa stories as she watched them paint. One of these stories was about the country Muran which is south of Yagga Yagga. She says this was her favorite and she would get the Sunfly to tell her over and over again.
Theresa went to school at the Balgo Lurnpa Catholic School and later attended Nulungu Colledge in Broome. She is married to Brian Mudgedell who is also a talented painter and they have three children: Haley, Brittany and Talisin.
