Biography

Mavis is the granddaughter of Nancy Naninurra and has been given permission to paint Naninurra’s Tjukurrpa. Mavis said that she would sit with Nancy when she was a young girl and watch her paint whilst Nancy would talk about the Tjukurrpa stories related to her country. Mavis grew up in Balgo and attended Luurnpa Catholic School in Balgo until she was thirteen.  She married Aboriginal way to Cyril Calyon and now lives in Mulan with her three children.
