Biography
David learnt to paint in his formative years by watching his Grandmother Mati Mudgedell (deceased). He was a keen listener and throughout his life listened to the elders telling ancestral stories about his traditional country. He started painting in 2001 where he depicted his Tjukurrpa in a traditional style. He didn’t paint his next painting until 2008 in a contemporized style using line and a minimal palette of two colours.
David grew up in Broome and attended Saint Mary’s State School where he excelled in arts and sport.
He now lives in Balgo and is also a skilled film editor, script writer, director and camera person, committed to the corporation’s cultural documentation project and The Motikar Project. Currently David is concentrating on writing and producing indigenous conceptual films, documentaries and community projects.
