Exhibition Details

Wankgkartu, Winpurpurla - Soakwaters Continuing Through Time is an exciting exhibition of new paintings by father and daughter, Helicopter Tjungurrayi and Imelda Yukenbarri Gugaman.

Esteemed elder and artist, Helicopter Tjungurrayi uses his unique, bold style to depict his country that is dominated by 'tali' (sandhills) and 'tjurnu' (soak water). Wangkartu is the soak water where Helicopter spent time as a young man, and aplace that he long considers as his home country.

Imelda Yukenbarri Gugaman is the daughter of renowned artist Lucy Yukenbarri, who was the late wife of Helicopter Tjungurrayi. Inheriting her mother's stories, Imelda paints Winpurpurla, the soakwater found within her mother's country south of Balgo.
