Title : Minyurrpa
Size/Medium : 610 x 457mm: acrylic on canvas Painting
Geraldine was born at Derby Regional Hospital and is the youngest of five daughters of Brandy Tjungurrayi (senior lawman) and Nowee Nangala (deceased) from who she inherited many Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) stories.
Geraldine began painting in 2002 after watching both her mother and father painting.
She is a powerful young painter, and her work has grown from strength to strength. Her palette is dominated by the various flowers, seeds and bush tucker that dominate the region at various times of years.
Geraldine’s daughter Serena Nowee is also an esteemed painter in her own right.
Geraldine is an essential member of staff at the art centre. She works in a team with her partner Jackie Williams, together they keep the day-to-day operations of the art centre running smoothly!
Geraldine has painting her mother’s country, Minyurrpa, between Jupiter Well and the Canning Stock Route. The various curved lines are the sand dunes in the country, the dots illustrate the abundance of seeds found in the area, and the circles represent the grinding stones, used to grind down the seeds to make bush damper.
