Size/Medium : 1219 x 1016mm: acrylic on canvas Painting
This work describes the country of Geraldine’s mother and grandfather. Nyilla is on the northern side of Jupiter Well, which is in the Great Sandy Desert. The work shows the abundance of the bush tobacco called waltjikarratja in this country. Waltjikarratja is good for collecting in the cold weather time and has white flowers. People from this area collect this bush tobacco by pulling it out of the ground and lay it in the ants hill to dry for 1-2 weeks. People then smash it with a stone, make a fire to make ashes called kawan and then they mix the tobacco with the ashes and they chew it.
