Artist : REX COTCHILLI
Title : Tali (sanddunes)
Size/Medium : 1219 x 610mm: acrylic on linen Painting
Rex has painted many many lines in the painting which represent the tali (sandhills) that dominate this country near Wilkinkarra. This Country is for his Grandfather, Tjumpo Tjapanangka, it is a long way south of Balgo in the Great Sandy Desert.
Rex visited Wilkinkarra for the first time on a Warlayirti Artists connection to country camp in 2022. It was the first time Rex had been shown this country. For a long time he had been travelling up and down the road, between Balgo and Kiwirrkurra, but never knew to stop at that place. So close but not until this camp that he saw it.
Rex says Ït was really proper way. Old people took me there, told me all the stories. So I really know this place now. I’ve been come back to Balgo and tell all my family that I visited and it made my spirit so happy.”
