Magda has painted her mothers’ country, Mangkayi, south of Balgo in the Great Sandy Desert, east of Yagga Yagga. She has painted the story of Nampitjin (Magda’s Tja Tja – grandmother) and Napanangka (Magda’s Yipi – mother) women preparing ceremonial food. The circles represent where the women (U shapes with digging sticks) have dug for karnti (bush potato) and Tjirrilpatja (bush carrots). They have also collected Yinkurrarta (seeds) for making damper. The coolamons are filled with all of the mangarri (bush tucker) the women have collected.
