Kumpaya has painted some of her traditional and ancestral country. This is katarr, an important site of water and life. It is along the Canning Stock Route on Martu country, a long way south of Balgo. Kumpaya grew up on this land and spent her childrhood and early adolescents travelling this country with her family. For them, this site holds important tjukurrpa (dreaming) and provides water, food and shelter: a vital source of life in the desert.
