Artist : MELISSA SUNFLY
Title : Ngantalarra
Size/Medium : 813 x 305mm: acrylic on canvas Painting

Melissa has depicted some of her TjaTja (grandmother’s) country called Ngantalarra situated South of Yagga. The many folding lines represent the tali (sand hills) which dominate the country. Among the tali you can find an abundance of mangarri (bush tucker) including Kumpupatja (bush tomato), and spinifex which turns green after the rain. Bush flowers are represented in the colourful dots, while the straight lines represent “tali”, the sandhills. Melissa was taken to this country by the old women, including her grand mother Bai Bai Napangarti, she was shown how to hunt and they had a big corroboree.
